What a Commercial Mainline Survey Involves

Our crawler unit combines powerful onboard LED lighting with a high resolution pan and tilt camera, recording every metre of the pipe run in real time. The footage captures cracks, fractures, displaced joints, root ingress, deposits, deformation and blockages, giving a complete and accurate picture of the pipe's condition before any commercial or construction decision is made. An integrated radio transmitter, known as a sonde, sits on the camera head and lets our operators pinpoint the exact position, depth and alignment of the pipe from above ground, tracing the route and marking every defect for design, build over and sewer adoption submissions.

Every observation is classified and coded to WRc OS19x and OS20x (MSCC5) and BS EN 13508-2, the standards used and recognised by water companies, insurers, building control and quantity surveyors. Reports are generated using WinCan, giving consistent, comparable results that carry weight wherever they are submitted.

 Every Survey Report Includes

Full colour PDF condition report with coded defects and severity ratings
High resolution still photographs cross referenced to distance (chainage)
Complete unedited video footage, downloadable or supplied digitally
Drainage plans showing pipe route, depth and defect locations, where required
An engineer's summary with recommendations and costed repair options

 Commercial Applications Across London

Every mainline survey we carry out follows the same WRc and BS EN reporting standards. That means the evidence stands up for sewer adoption applications, build over consent submissions and insurer reviews alike. A commercial CCTV mainline survey is usually commissioned at a specific point in a project or a property's life. The situations we cover most often:
Pre-construction and due diligence surveys, verifying existing drainage condition before redevelopment or extension works
Sewer adoption and Section 104 submissions, providing condition evidence formally accepted by water authorities
Build over consent reports, required when proposing a structure over a public sewer
Pre-lease and dilapidation surveys, a baseline condition record for commercial property transactions
Asset condition and planned maintenance, periodic inspection of long drainage runs to plan remedial works
Insurance and dilapidation claims, independent, coded evidence accepted by all major insurers

Built for Large Scale Commercial Drainage

Wide Diameter Coverage: Covers pipe diameters between 100mm and 1000mm or larger, suited to large commercial and industrial drainage runs.
Extended Reach: Surveys up to 300 metres from a single access point, minimising the need for multiple entry points.
Non-Disruptive Access: No excavation required, so surveys run smoothly on live or occupied commercial sites.
Standards-Based Reporting: Every report is coded to WRc and BS EN standards, accepted by water authorities and insurers.
Pipe Route Tracing: Route tracing and depth measurement included as standard, supporting design and build over submissions.
Multi-Purpose Evidence: Suitable for sewer adoption, build over consent and legal or insurance purposes alike.

CCTV Mainline Surveys FAQs

Our mainline survey equipment covers pipe diameters of 100mm up to 1000mm and above, and can travel up to 300 metres from a single access point, which suits the long drainage runs found on commercial sites across London.
Every commercial CCTV survey in London comes with a full colour PDF condition report with coded defects and severity ratings, high resolution stills referenced to distance along the pipe, the complete unedited footage, and an engineer's summary with recommendations and costed repair options. Measured drainage plans are available on request.

Yes. A sonde in the camera head lets our operators pinpoint position, depth and alignment from above ground, so we can mark defect locations and produce measured drainage plans for design, build over and adoption submissions.
